Branding

UX Design

In my final semester at Swinburne University, I was briefed with designing branding and a mobile application for a walking tour company within Melbourne. The walking tour could be themed/styled in anyway.

The Challenge
What challenges were involved?
The app needed to be engaging enough to capture users attention while on the move, offering a dynamic and interactive experience that complemented the excitement of exploring the city’s sports history.

In addition to ensuring usability with intuitive touch interactions, the design had to be visually stimulating, using vibrant graphics and smooth navigation to enhance the walking tour. The app had to leverage the full capabilities of mobile devices, ensuring it was not only easy to use but also enjoyable and immersive in an outdoor, on-the-go environment.

The Solution
How I completed the project?
I successfully completed the project by designing a cohesive application identity that reflected the sports walking tour’s vibrant theme and narrative. I developed a clear application theme that aligned with the spirit of Melbourne’s sporting precinct, ensuring it was both engaging and easy to navigate. To define the user journey, I created a flow chart for interaction, alongside detailed storyboards and wireframes to map out key screens and interactions.

Conclusion
What were my learnings & experiences?
This project greatly expanded my understanding of the pivotal role user research plays in the design process. While I recognized its importance, I gained a deeper insight into how it drives data-informed decision-making and shapes the overall design direction. Beyond user research, the project provided invaluable experience in applying design principles within real-world contexts and managing a project from start to finish.

Spanning six months, the project challenged my time management skills and reinforced my commitment to delivering high-quality work, ultimately preparing me for my first full-time UX design role, which I began shortly thereafter.
